Introducing the basic mathematics military time converter below which will convert from a 12-hour a.m./p.m. time to a military time or a 24-hour military time. I purposely built the calculator not only to do conversions,
but also to teach you the military format naturally as you use it!
How to use the calculator
Use the first two boxes on top that have a colon between them to enter the time in 12-hour time notation. For example, you could enter 1:35. Finally, choose a.m. or p.m.
Use the box labeled " From military to standard " to enter the time in the military time or the 24-hour time notation.
For example, you could enter 1:35. Finally, choose a.m. or p.m.
The military time uses 4 digits. The first 2 digits show the number of hours that passed after midnight and the last two digits show the number of minutes.
The military time starts at 0000 and ends at 2400
For 1200, 12 hours have passed. It is also the time right between 0000 and 2400 or 12:00 p.m.
For 1430, 14 is the number of hours and 30 is the number of minutes.
14 hours after midnight is 2 pm. Therefore, 1430 is 2:30 p.m.
Either 0000 or 2400 is midnight.
0001 is 12:01 a.m.
0059 is 12:59 a.m.
The time after 0059 is not 0060. Instead, it is 0100 and 0100 is 1:00 a.m.
The time after 0959 is not 0960. Instead, it is 1000 and 1000 is 10:00 a.m.
2401 is not a valid military time. Why is that? Well, it is because the last time in the clock before the next day is 2400, 12:00 a.m. or midnight.
After that we start at 0001 or 12:01 a.m.
